# Mining

An abundance of precious gems rests right beneath the surface of Emerald Shores which led to the prosperity of this tiny island nation. Entering the mine is quite easy, however, getting access to mine the gems is not as straightforward as equipping your favorite pickaxe. The quest to obtain a special Emerald Shores pickaxe includes some delicious food, a raccoon, and a little bit of dumpster diving. Sounds like a prank but make sure to speak to **Jorge** inside the mine so he can provide you with more information.

The mine consists of six levels. You spawn at the Gate which is also the first level. It's unlocked and available as soon as you obtain your pickaxe and it is also where all the friendly miners of Emerald Shores like to hang out. The other five levels need to be unlocked but money alone isn't enough, you also need to work hard to earn it. Once again, these locals are here to help you:

**Prospector Pete:** Pete loves numbers and keeping track of things. He will reward you for the amount of ores and crystals you mine with Emerald Shells - the official currency of Emerald Shores, Guardian Eggs and tags.

**Operator Otis:** Otis is who you need to work with in order to access the lower levels of the mine. He's not much into small talk but can take you to the deepest level with just one click of a button.

**Forger Fran:** Fran is there to help you smelt your ore nuggets into chunks, ingots or blocks, depending on your needs. She can also repair your pickaxe after all the hard work you've done.

**Miner Mark:** Mike is where you can enchant your pickaxe. He provides efficiency and fortune along with some other special enchants that will help you progress further into the mine.

But beware! The mines of Emerald Shores are infested with creatures called Mine Crawlers. They look cute and innocent at first but they can strike out when they feel threatened in their stony homes. Killing them will reward you with some nuggets.

Another creature that calls the Emerald Shores mines its home is the Ore Golem. Unlike the Mine Crawlers who strike alone and out of nowhere, the Ore Golems prefer working in groups, attacking miners in waves at random times throughout the day. Their arrival is announced in chat, which allows you to teleport to the mines, hit them with a pickaxe and get some extra chunks and ingots for killing them. The drops from each killed Ore Golem are shared between players within a small range of the kill.
